Sailor Jerry Spiced Navy Rum

Review: Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum   (85.0 pts)
a review by Chip Dykstra (Aka Arctic Wolf)

(Sorry no Picture at this time)

IN THE BOTTLE (4.5)

Nice pinup girl on an inexpensive bottle. What is not to like?

IN THE GLASS (8.0)

This smells like a mild Dr. Pepper. Yum!

IN THE MOUTH (52.0)

So far a pleasant spiced rum. A Cherry coke with lots of zip and pop. I was expecting lots of Dr. Pepper but this is sweeter and milder. Nice. Not extremely elegant or complex just a nice casual drink for friends.

IN THE THROAT (12.5)

More of the same. Its great that the spice is so unique (at least for me). The flavour does not get old in the throat but just sits gently.

The AFTERBURN (8.0)

Do not take this as a bad score. Its just that this rum is nice and pleasing but not outstanding in any way. I like it in my hot tub on a cool day.

Sailor Jerry’s sorry, but you don’t give this rum a very good rating either….what rum would you recommend that is under $20 bucks?
    Thanks

    • I am not sure where you are so guessing whats 20 bucks in your locale is difficult, but try the new Bacardi Oakheart, the Cruzan 9, or the George Street Spiced Rum, they are the most highly rated spiced rums on the website.

I had this again tonight neat and must say that I really enjoyed it. The Dr. Pepper observation is bang on.

For the price, I think this is great rum, mind you, I drink it straight unlike most readers.

    • Hi Jason

This was one of my very first reviews. As you can see, when I first started doing this, everything was short and to the point. One of these days I’ll have to revisit this rum (and the review) and see if I can flesh out more than a mild Dr. Pepper note.

      Have a great day Jason.

Was this review before or after they changed the recipe?
