Santa Teresa 1796 Antiguo de Solera

Review: Santa Theresa Ron Antigua de Solero (91.0 pts)

Santa Theresa Ron Antiguo de SeleraIN THE BOTTLE (5.0/5)
A very nice blue canister which looks great on my rum shelf.  The bottle is protected by a wax sealed cork.  I love it!

IN THE GLASS
(9.0/10)
A really different reddish tone to the rum. Along with the rum notes is a welcome scent of Sherry.   The spices are tart and hot almost like cinnamon.  Some welcome notes of Dry Fruit as well.

IN THE MOUTH (55.0/60)

The sherry flavour with the rum is very good. If this rum was not finished in a sherry cask then kudos for fooling me.  I found however, that the sherry notes were less appealing  as time progressed. This is the way it is with some flavours.  They are very good but only in well spaced doses.

IN THE THROAT (13.5/15)
The flavours really swirl and compete as the rum hits the back of my throat but somehow the balance is never really achieved.  This is the danger of using wine casks to finish a spirit, balance is illusive.

The AFTERBURN (8.5/10)
The appeal of this rum is to visit it only when something special is in order.  The flavour is unique and refreshing but not in an everyday kind of way.
