Hey Chip – Nice review. Echoes my own experiences with Orange Liqueurs. Bols is also my staple “go-to” for cocktails like Margaritas, Mai Tai’s, etc. Besides being my preference, it’s also easy on the wallet. I love when that happens.

Just tried this recently. I agree – a welcome addition to the Canadian whisky scene. I agree completely with you on the issue of presentation: so many Canadian whiskies are packaged rather indifferently. Ours is a huge country with huge potential for creativity and product development. I do wish we’d see more of a single-malt mentality take hold in our industry – not price-wise, but individuality-, personality-, and flavour-interest-wise. The presentation of this rye is perfect: elegant bottle and classy cork stopper. The whisky also has personality, which is important. As someone who does not enjoy mixed drinks, I like to be able to try a whisky and see character in it.

The last time I tried Rhum Saint James was four years ago. Its a fine Rhum, but you should be aware that Rhum Agricoles are much different from rum (drier and much more earthy.)

hi.just started in on our treats from due south..reread your thoughts on plant nicar 98. i am amazed of your power and influence. point being,the fact that your comments are “right on” minus any overlay of sweetness in the potion.. any hint of too much sweetness is gone on the 2001 version…lovely sipper..was yours 42% vol. as well? ..about to crack the 2 ocumares and the cask 12 viscaya..then we shall see…cheers russ

I haven’t really had any contact with Dewars, so I suspect it will be a while before I review any of their family of Whiskies.
