Whisky Cocktail: Alpine Meadows

Alpine Meadows:  A  Cocktail  Collaboration

I often turn to my good friend forrest (click his name to go to  his blog) to help me come up with a cocktail.  In this case I wanted construct an elegant cocktail for the fifteen year old Glenfiddich whisky that would enhance the alpine meadow aroma I noted on the nose and temper the woody oakiness  I noted in the flavour profile.  Forrest and I collaborate (or rather I force forrest to help me) on the cocktail recipes, and his versions  always turn out great.

This is what forrest came up with:

Alpine Meadows 1
(a cocktail by forrest)

1 1/2 Oz Glenfiddich 15
3/4 Oz Gin
3/4 Oz Gran Gala (sub any great triple distilled orange liqueur)

Stir with ice until chilled,
strain into chilled cocktail glass, garnish
With lime zest

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Alpine Meadows 2
(a snifter version of the Alpine Meadows 1)

If you like, you can build the Alpine Meadows as a snifter drink.  I cut back the ingredients of the original cocktail to a level  I preferred, and altered them to suit what I had on my bar shelf.  I then took the picture and drank this nice drink.

Recipe:

1 oz      Glenfiddich 15
1/2 oz Tangeray #10 Gin
1/2 oz Triple Sec

Build on one ice cube in a glen cairn glass

Garnish with a small wedge of lime.

Although this recipe has been great with the Glenfiddich whisky for which it was intended, I have found that it works extremely well for many other scotch whiskies.  I have used this recipe with outstanding success with these whiskies: Highland park 12 Year, Macallan Travel Series the Thirties,  Amrut Indian Single Malt, Johnnie Walker Gold Label, and Old Parr Superior 18 Year old.

As always I thank forrest for his kind help.    I will keep saying it,  when it comes to cocktails forrest ROCKS!  Please visit his site and learn more about his take on these drinks:
