Whiskey Sour

Whiskey Sour
1 1/2 oz bourbon whiskey
3/4 oz lemon juice
1 tsp sugar syrup
1 Maraschino Cherry

Pour the bourbon, lemon juice, and sugar syrup into a metal shaker with ice cubes.
Shake until the shaker chills Strain into a chilled glencairn glass.
Garnish with the Maraschino cherry.

Now in my locale Maraschino cherries are impossible to find. Instead they sell these yucky candied cherries in red sugar syrup.  So if you are faced with the same problem as I am, here is a modified recipe that still provides that awesome hint of maraschino flavour:

Modified Whiskey Sour

2   oz bourbon whiskey
1/2  oz lemon juice
1 tsp simple sugar
1/4 teaspoon Maraschino Liqueur

Chill a small rocks glass until it is very cold.
Aromatize the glass with Maraschino Liqueur.
(This can be done by pouring a little in the glass, swooshing it round and expelling any excess. The object is to coat the inside of the glass with a film of the Maraschino liqueur.)
Pour the bourbon, lemon juice, and sugar syrup into a metal shaker with cracked Ice.
Shake until the shaker chills
Strain into the chilled rocks glass.
Garnish if desired with a small slice of Orange.
