Rum Cocktail: Royale Batiste

I was looking a few months ago for a nice cocktail to make with a super Premium Rum.  The rum in question was the Ron Zacapa XO 25 Year Solero,

As I often do, I turned to forrest with a few ideas and suggestions.  Neither of us was willing to commit the rum to various trial runs as the Zacapa XO is just to precious to fritter away.  Then Forrest noted that one of my suggestions was essentially the same as a recipe called “The Batiste“, which is a cocktail using white rum and Grand Marnier.  (You may click on the link to obtain the full recipe.)

In order to bring this cocktail to the level of quality I was seeking, I used the most excellent Louis Alexandre Grand Marnier in conjunction with my super premium rum.

The Royal Batiste

1 1/2 oz   Zacapa Centenario XO
1/2 oz       Louis Alexandre Grand Marinier

Build in a cocktail Glass on one Large Ice Cube

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

For those who want to know, ‘batiste’ refers to an extremely soft and elegant  cotton  fabric first produced in France.  Baptiste of Cambrai a (13th Century weaver) is credited with its first production.  My cocktail thus refers to the soft and elegant nature of the two spirits used which make this a drink fit for Royalty.

And indeed this cocktail is “forrest approved“.

    Hi Chip.
First I would like to thank you for the work you are doing with this blog. I value your reviews and many of the bottles currently present i my collection have first been introduced to me by this blog. So thank you for that.
After the formalities are over I would recommend a new edition of the ” Royal Batiste”. I have found that with the use of Diplomatico 12 instead of the Zacapa this cocktail takes a turn with the honey of the Diplomatico. To my taste the honey complements the orange and sugar extremely well. It is now my favourite mix for this cocktail. Hopefully it inspires you and others to give it a try – and please leave your comments.

Wauuw…. I must really have been confused, when I wrote the first comment. I meant to write DICTADOR 12 but instead put Diplomatico. I dont know why, must have been all the years I´ve spent in a boxing ring………
For my suggested recipe use Dictador 12 with the Grand Marnier.
      :-)
