Gin Cocktail: The Key Lime Gimlet
The orange and grapefruit citrus elements I notice in most gins mix well with lime. Here is my variation on the traditional gimlet which I make with Tangueray No. 10 Gin and key limes.
2 oz Gin (I suggest Tangueray No. 10)
3/8 oz fresh Key Lime Juice
1/4 to 1/2 oz Sugar Syrup
Half a glass of Cracked Ice
Mix the three ingredients over ice in a rocks glass. Garnish with fresh key lime slices added to the glass.
The sugar syrup is usually omitted in the traditional recipe (which uses a lime cordial instead of lime Juice), but for me, real lime juice and sugar syrup make the gimlet much better. I also love he look of the key lime slices trapped in the bottom by the ice, this gives the cocktail just a little ambiance when it is served.
And always remember the aim is not to drink more it is to drink better!

Hey Wolf,
I really enjoy your reviews, especially on the rums. I googled for reviews on Flor de Cana, and your site popped up. I’d love to hear your take on their 4 year old amber, which I like almost as much as the Grand Reserve 7 year.
On the gimlet front, my wife’s and my favorite gimlet is the RUM gimlet. Have you tried this combo, and do you tweak your gin gimlet recipe at all for best effect?
Again, I really enjoy your elegant and descriptive reviews. Keep up the good work.
All the best,
Christopher

Hi Christopher,
I haven’t had the opportunity to review the four year yet, so I cannot give an opinion. On the rum gimlet, I guess I prefer a daiquiri to a gimlet, but they are almost the same thing. What’s your recipe?
Cheers!
